The goal was to create a series of idents that visually represent Al Jazeera Balkans’ editorial mission, values, and ethos.
The idents should establish a connection to brand consistency across AJMN while allowing for a distinctive channel character.

Following the main brief, we developed a concept that trails the flow, telling a story divided into three acts: birth, wisdom, and eternity;
from emerging in the mountains to blending into the delta.

We use recognisable Balkan scenery, such as mountains, forests, and rivers, to blend seamlessly with other brand visuals.

The story of birth begins deep underground in the mountains. Instead of using the typical approach of showing some springs,
we follow the water released from the ice as it transforms from its solid state into a liquid.

We use a white, cold colour palette that contrasts with dark green rivers.

We show how small actions can lead to big changes using the alegory of the butterfly effect. We also use autumn as a symbol for the time of year when you collect the results of your hard work. Additionally, this should serve as a representation of maturity.

The colour palette is yellow and brown, contrasting with dark green rivers.

Rivers typically flow into larger bodies of water, such as other rivers, lakes, or seas. This does not signify the end of the river, but rather the beginning of its journey towards eternity and its integration into a much greater narrative. For this reason, we will avoid using any “end-of-life” allegories and instead emphasise the journey toward a larger story.

This story is calm and transcendent. We see a steady water surface and a vessel that represents a journey.
